This was the seventh (!) year I’ve participated in SXSW. It felt like there was so much less insanity this year compared to recent years: less money, fewer celebrities, less chaos; and I think this made the conference so much more enjoyable.
I had the opportunity to explore and be exposed to such a wide variety of new, amazing ideas and ways of thinking and people. There was the complete freedom to just sample anything interesting and intriguing, without feeling undue pressure about something you just couldn’t miss. And I think this is what the conference was meant to be about: it isn’t about partying or buzz, really, but the chance to connect and be exposed to new ideas and share in that communal camaraderie of creativity and inspiration. The joy and love in the streets was palpable this year, and that feeling is something I had really missed in recent years.
It took me 6 years of figuring it out, but this was definitely my most rewarding sxsw yet! I’m left grateful, energized, inspired, and with several new avenues of thought to pursue.
